Once again this year, MXD are inviting several key international industry professionals to attend SPOT Festival. All of them will be joining us at the MXD Superball @ RADAR as part of the SPOT+ programme, but until the festival kicks off on May 4th, we will be bringing you brief introductions to them, including where they come from, what companies they work for, what bands they want to check out at SPOT, and much more. We look forward to seeing Michail Stangl of Boiler Room.
Name: Michail Stangl
Company: Boiler Room
Title: Director Germany, Senior Programmer, Host
Based in: Berlin
Can you tell us a bit about Boiler Room’s history?
Started in 2010 in a London warehouse basement with a webcam and a laptop Boiler Room became the world’s most important underground music platform with over 150 million monthly viewers, listeners and visitors from all over the world.
– and a bit about the acts you have had this year:
Just in the first two months of the 2017 we had everyone from Migos and Asap Rocky to Goldie and Modeselektor.
When was the moment you decided you wanted to work with music?
At 13, when I understood what the role of a music label and distribution company was. It wasn’t until 2011 that I went full time in pursuing my dream, but I have been involved with music since 2006 when I organized my first event in Berlin.
What are your favorite Danish acts?
I’m actually a very big fan of the whole Aarhus IDM gang – Puzzleweasel, Sofus Forsberg, Karsten Pflum and especially Rumpistol! I’ve also been watching quite closely what Posh Isolation have been doing.
Best live show of your life, hands down:
Coil, 2001 in Leipzig. Wouldn’t be doing what I do today without that experience.
